What are the various proof tests loads for different SWL?

Answer 1

Cranes
Up to 20t: 1.25 x SWL
Between 20t and 50t: SWL + 5t
>50t: 1.1 x SWL

Blocks
Single sheave blocks: 4 x SWL
Multi sheave blocks =< 25t: 2 x SWL
Multi sheave blocks 25< SWL > 160t: 0.933 x SWL + 27

Hooks, shackles, chains, rings, swivels, etc
SWL =< 25t: 2 x SWL
25t < SWL: 1.22 x SWL + 20

How often is a crane proof test required?

Crane Proof Test

• Before the equipment is taken into service;
• 5-yearly periods, but for cranes used for lifting personnel they need to be tested every year;
• After any structural modification or repair.

Although the cranes do not need an annual load test, “the thorough test may be supplemented if necessary by suitable means or measures in order to arrive at a reliable conclusion as to the safety of the lifting equipment or accessory for lifting examined”.
