• Early socialisation from family. (Traditional roles - expressive - instrumental)
• unrealistic expectations - Francis - boys often have unrealistic expectations which require more formal qualifications e.g profess footballer . Where as girls might be more school based e.g doc
• Boys literacy - mitosis and Browne - women more likely to read books than the father . To children too - girls more likely to be inspired by same sex
• Mac and Ghalil - women become main breadwinners - roles under threat. Crisis of masculinity. Mental health charity CALM- crisis of masculinity struggling to deal with pressures in their professional and personal life’s.

Internal -
Sewell - boys fall behind in education because schools have been feminised. Focus of attentiveness. Or methodology which disadvantage boys.

Laddish subcultures- gain peer group status for messing about and having an “anti school subculture” identified 4 subcultures including “macho lads”
