Category 2 Reactor Trip
The cause of the trip has been identified.
Some safety-related equipment may not have functioned properly.
The cause of the malfunctioning safety-related equipment has been identified.
Category 3 Reactor Trip
The cause of the trip is unknown, or safety-related equipment did not function properly and the cause is indeterminate (cause of malfunction is unknown, thus cannot be corrected).

Category 3 - after reviewing post-trip report and considering the recommendations of the Shift Manager and PORC.
