Precautionary landing (away from airfield)

  1. Pick a field (take time)
  2. x3 left hand circuits with field on my left, descending as soon pass is complete
  3. First pass at 1,000ft agl (~1500ft QNH)
    - Check size, by counting to 7 seconds
    - Slow cruising at 70kts @ 1900 RPM, flaps 10
  4. Second pass at 500ft agl
    - Check surroundings
  5. Final pass at 100ft agl (never do when simulating as it breaks the clearance law)
    - Check surface
  6. Land after final pass

PFLs - practice forced landings

  1. Trim for best glide 65kts
  2. Turn downwind
  3. Attempt to restart (touch drills)
    - Mixture: rich
    - Throttle: open
    - Fuel: on
    - Magnetos: both
    - Primer: closed and locked
  4. Make Mayday call
    - “EMA radar, G-BRND, Cessna 152, Engine Failure, forced landing in a field, 2 miles west of CB, altitude 1,800ft QNH, heading 020, 2 PoB, PLB, PPL”
  5. Power on for 5 seconds, 2000 RPM
  6. Aim for low key, turning onto base for 1,000 ft agl
  7. Comittal checks
    - Mixture: ICO
    - Throttle: closed
    - Fuel: off
    - Mags: off
    - U/C: down
    - Master switch: off when required flaps are deployed
  8. Climb away when told (ensure to not breach the 500ft above all persons, animals or objects rule)
