Specific
The target must be well defined and state exactly what is required for it to be achieved. It should not be vague.
Measurable
It must be quantifiable and be expressed in some form of measurement unit, for example increase sales by 20%.
Agreed
It must be discussed and agreed with line managers, especially when preparing a Personal Development Plan.
Realistic
Targets should be challenging but must still be achievable.
Timed
Key date(s) identified when the target should be completed.
