John is an elite 400m runner. Explain why having an efficient cardiorespiratory system is important for his sport (3)
The cardiorespiratory system is vital to keep the body supplied with oxygen when exercising. For a 400m runner this is important to get more oxygen in the blood to the working muscles quickly in order to stop the build up of lactic acid. This is vital for his performance as it means is he doesn’t supply his muscles with enough oxygen he will fatigue faster and not finish the race as strongly, which will lead to getting a slower time.
