Obstacle is designed to impede, slow or stop movement of ENY
Cheap, Light weight, and rapidly built, repaired and reinforced.
1) Must be under friendly observation, covered by fire and where practically protected by anti-personnel mine, trip flares, and warning device.
2) Conceal from ENY observation by incorporating with terrain
3) Always deployed in depth
4) Erected in irregular and non-geometrical traces
5) Employed in bands or zones wherever practicable
1) Belt
A belt is an entanglement one fence in depth
2) Band
A band consists of two or more belts in depth with no intervals between them. It may be composed of two or more fences of different types.
3) Zone
A zone consists of two or more bands or belts in depth, with intervals between them.
It provide for the passage of patrols, working parties, and attacking & counterattacking forces. When not in use they are kept closed by the use of portable obstacles covered by fire. In barbed wire zones, lanes and gaps are staggered in a zigzag pattern.
a) Tactical
Sited parallel to and along the friendly side of the final protective line. Used to break up ENY attack formation and hold the ENY in area covered by the most intense defensive fire. Not necessarily continuous
b) Protective
To prevent surprise assaults from points close to the defense area.
c) Supplementary (FEBA)
Used to conceal the exact line of the tactical wire and break up the line of tactical wire
