Sound
Waves that are produced when particles vibrate. Sound waves need a medium to travel through (solid, liquid or gas).
Rarefaction
A region in a longitudinal wave where the particles are furthest apart.
Compression
A region in a longitudinal wave where the particles are closest together
Pinna
The skin and cartilage on the outside of the body, on the side of the head. The pinna is part of the outer ear.
Ear canal
Sound travels through this from the pinna, to the eardrum. This is a part of the outer ear.
Echo
The sound heard after being reflected off a hard surface.
Reverberation
The length of time a sound can be hear for.
