when ideas leapfrog from one important person, community, or city to another by passing other persons, communties, or rural areas
Expansion diffusion
when ideas or pratices spread throughout a population, from area to area. In a snowball process, so that the total number of knowers or users and the areas of occurrence increase
Contagious diffusion
wave spread of ideas in the manner of a contagious diease. Equivalent of something going viral.
Stimulus Diffusion
when a specific trait is rejected but the underlying idea is accepted
Relocation Diffusion
When people move, or relocate, they spread ideas along with them.
Reverse Hierarchical Diffusion
when ideas leapfrog from a lower level of a hierarchy to a higher level

the growing interdependence of the world’s economies, cultures, and populations
Time-space compression
The decreasing distance between places, as measured by travel time or cost; often summarize by the phrase “the world is shrinking”
