Phalens test
Have pt press back of hands for 60 seconds. Hand pain or TINGLING suggests carpal tunnel syndrome due to compression of MEDIAN Nerve
Palpation and Tenderness of anatomical snuff box suggests
scaphoid/navicular fracture
Tinel’s sign
EXTEND wrist slightly and Tap MEDIAN nerve at wrist.
Hand pain or tingling suggest carpal tunnel syndrome
Allen test
Occlude radial and ulnar arteries, ask pt to make a right fist, then open hand. Release ULNAR artery to check blood flow to hand.
Used to check ULNAR artery patency (or patency of palmar arch) prior to radial a. puncture for blood gas determination
