Spermatogenesis begins in the outermost layer of cells called the
seminiferous tubules
Spermatogenesis had 4 parts
Mitosis
Meiosis 1
Meiosis 2
Spermiogenesis
Step 1 of Spermatogenesis
stem cells called spermatogonia divide by mitosis to produce daughter cells
one daughter cell differentiates into primary spermatocyte
Step 2 of Spermatogenesis
primary spermatocytes are the cells that begin Meiosis 1 and divide into secondary spermatocytes
Step 3 of Spermatogenesis
secondary spermatocytes are cells that begin Meiosis 2 and become spermatids or gametes
Step 4 of Spermatogenesis
spermatids undergo spermiogenesis (maturation) and become spermatozoa or sperm
