Interphase
The chromosomes are copied
Prophase
The chromosomes start to break down and spindle fibres appear
Metaphase
The chromosome fibres are lined up on the spindle fibres across the middle of the cell
Anaphase
The copies of the chromosomes are separated and moved to either end of the cell on spindle fibres.
Telophase
A membrane forms around each set of chromosomes to make nuclei.
Cytokinesis
Cell surface membrane forms to separate the two cells. A cell wall is formed in plants
