A variable the can exist within a range (E.g BMI - can range from 18.5-50).
Categorical variable
Can be grouped into categories (e.g blood type, race)
Discrete variable (usually integers).
Variable that can only take certain values (e.g. number of children)

Emphasises the role of economic and social factors such as income, education and employment in shaping health outcomes.
