(XII) Hypoglossal
what/how do we assess the hypoglossal cranial nerve?
Ask the patient to open their mouth and inspect the tongue for muscle wastage and fasciculation.
Ask the patient to stick their tongue out - look for fasciculation and deviation - sign of muscle weakness
Ask the patient to state “light” tight and dynimite - this is assessing for normal and full range of tongue movement
