Processing for Obtaining Study Permit

Study Permit: When?
R. 213 - Before entering Canada
R. 214 - upon entry at POE
R. 215 - after entry into Canada
R. 188 (1)(c): studies of less than six months do not require study permits
Requirements

accppanying family members
Accompanying family members can be exempt from having an acceptance letter, as long as the applicant recieved writen approval before entering Canada.
Study Permits for Minors
No study permit is required for elementary or high school or if they are children of refugees or to those that are permitted to be in Canada.
However, when they reach the age of majority they will have to apply for a study permit if they would like to continue their studies.
Visa required country
If approved the study permit and the TRV will be issued together
Duration of Study Permit
Valid for the length of the study program plus an extra 90 days.
However, study permits issued at the college the university level will become invalid 180 days after the completion of the program because that would be the same deadline as the PGWP (Post grad work permit) application
Extensions
May apply for an extension if the following are met:
An student is able to continue studying with “implied status” if application for extension was done prior to the expiration of the permit, as long as
If a student departed Canada during the implied status, they may re-enter as a temporary resident, pending a decision, provided that they are TRV exempt
Students: Work Permit Not Required
** Students are able to work off campus 20 hours a week but also may work on campus
