1. undertake first aid if appropriate
2. carry out initial scene investigation
3. verify death has occurred
4. obtain medical certificate for cause of death
5. Formally identity deceased
6. remove the deceased to the mortuary

1. coroner must have this prior to release of body to NOK
   - normally carried out flat close really
   - if visual ID can’t be carried out must be done by forensics
