Why is the squad column the squad’s primary and most commonly used formation?
The squad column is the primary formation used because the amount of control the squad leader has over the squad, the squad’s ability to facilitate manuerver, good dispersion laterally and in-depth, it allows large volume of fire to the flank, though limited to the front, and 360 security.
