The cardinal rules of firearms safety also relate to the TASER and are:

1. Treat all weapons as if they are loaded.
2. Point the weapon in a safe direction (Laser Rule).
3. Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are on target and have decided to fire.
4. Be sure of your target and what is around it and behind it.
