o Direct: action that directly discriminates against someone because of their protected characteristic (Employing men over women) o Indirect: when you treat everyone the same but someone is still negatively affected (Policy to work every other Saturday, discrimination against a jewish person)

o Equal opportunities policy - ensure my organisations employees follow equality act 2010 to eliminate discrimination, sets out responsibilities on employees to follow policy and law, held liable for any unlawful discrimination o Bullying and harassment statement - This is a policy that PCC have created to eliminate bullying or harassment and has processes to stop harassment or bullying or raise concerns if required.

o This is when we have judgments or decisions based on bias o We may not even realised we have because it is engraved in our minds from societal norms or the way we grew up

o Halo (race-based hair discrimination), affinity, ageism and gender

o It could lead to unequal treatment and negatively impact judgments or decisions

o Covering up names, or information that could lead to bias when evaluating people o Focus on facts and figures

o Ensures individuals are valued on their skill and experience and not their characteristics o No unfair treatment or disadvantage for anyone applying

o Nine personal characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010, including age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation.
