Constructive plate margin
Plates move apart, creating a new crust, often due to convection currents. Magma rises to the surface leading to volcanic eruptions and earthquakes as the crust fractures and shifts.
Destructive plate margin
Plates collide causing subduction and destruction of crust, intense pressure builds up, resulting in explosive volcanic eruptions, powerful earthquakes and tsunamis.
Conservative plate margin
Plates slide past each other horizontally. Friction between the plates builds up, releasing energy in the form of frequent earthquakes while no new crust is formed and no volcanic activity occurs.
