Q

What are the 6 chains of infection?

A
  1. Infectious agent
    A. organism that can cause a. disease.
    B. Seek treatment if ill and use proper chemicals to kill pathogens.
  2. Reservoir
    A. Places where pathogens can grow (doorknob, tables, people)
    B. Wash hands, keep clean environment and disinfect
  3. Portal of exit
    A. How it leaves the reservoir (sneeze, cough, talk, drool)
    B. Wear PPE, cover mouth, dispose of infected items properly & wash hands
  4. Mode of Transmition
    A. How they are carried from one place to another.
    B. Observe isolation procedures, wash hands, handle food safely, & control airflow in low pressure rooms.
  5. Portal of entry
    A. How it enters host
    B. Practice aseptic techniques during procedures, first aid, wash hands and proper handling of catheters.
  6. Susceptible host

Q

4 major types of microbes are:

A

Bacteria | one-celled microbes.

Viruses | invade living cells in order to grow and multiply.

Fungi | live on organic matter,
such as plants or animals.

16
Q

What is “Normal Floa”

A

Microbes that live and grow naturally in a certain
area of the body. They are nonpathogens until passed to something else

17
Q

MRO stands for?

A

Multidrug-resistant organisms

18
Q

Two types of infections are:

A
  1. Local - specific part
  2. Systemic - whole body
19
Q

Define a pandemic

A

When an illness spreads world/country wide

20
Q

What is involved in the chain of infection? (Acronym PRPMPS)

A
  1. Pathogen
  2. Reservoir
  3. Portal of exit
  4. Mode of Transportation
  5. Portal of entry
  6. Susceptible host
21
Q

What is an infection?

A

the invasion, multiplication, and growth of harmful microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, or other germs, within a host’s body

22
Q

What happens if you don’t rinse off all the soap from your hands or a clients body?

A

The skin dries out and aides in creating sensitive and or broken skin leading to possible infections and irritation.

23
Q

What to observe and report when you are baiting a client?

A

• Bruises
• Rashes and their location
• Skin discoloration
• Dry skin
• Unusual skin tempature
• Bleeding
• Corns/Calluses

24
Q

Define biofilm

A

Film that sticks to teeth that leads to cavities and decay - caused by saliva and bacteria

25
Define tartar
Buildup of hardened biofilm along the gumline
26
What is perineal care
The cleaning of genitals and anal areas
27
What is Smegma
Yellow/white substance of dead/oily buildup around the genitals (Penis tip/hood and clitoral area)
28
What is Thrush?
White spots inside mouth and tongue area
29
What causes MRO's
1. Over prescription of antibiotics when not needed. 2. Patients not taking antibiotics for full duration of time period.
30
What are 3 possible outcomes when exposed to pathogens?
1. Immune system destroys pathogens. 2. Does not destroy, but dies not form an infection. 3. Infection developed AFTER exposure
31
What is the care list of supply and equipment?
1. PPE - personal protective equipment 2. Clean - wipe away visible substances 3. Sanitize - lowers numbers 4. Disinfect - kills all germs (not including spores) 5. Sterilized - all life forms and spores have been killed
32
Two isolation procedures include:
1. Standard - all the time • Blood • Bodily Fluids • Broken Skin • Mucus membrane (leakage) 2. Transmition - • Airborne | respatory • Droplet | cough/sneeze • Contact | PPE/utensils
33
Define alopecia
Partial or full hair loss
34
Define Hirsutism
Excessive hair growth
35
How to remove garments from an infected body part (ex left arm)?
Put item on infection side first, then put on the normal side. To remove take off normal side and then take off infected side.
36
Two types of asepsis are?
medical asepsis (clean technique), which reduces the number of microorganisms and their spread through practices like hand hygiene. Surgical asepsis (sterile technique), which eliminates all microorganisms in a specific area, often used in operating rooms.
