The Enhanced Cognitive Interview
Fisher et al (1987) developed some additional elements of the CI which focused on the special interactions with the EWT. It is a method of interviewing witnesses that uses cognitive techniques within a planned structure to overcome problems caused by inappropriate sequencing of questions, which hinders memory retrieval.
Fisher et al. added social and communicative elements to improve the effectiveness of the interview in real-world situations. These include:
2.Allowing Witnesses to Speak Freely – Letting them control the flow of information, reducing interviewer interruption.
