- William paley’s theory that a watch is complex and intricate and so must have a designer, he uses this analogy to compare it to how the world/earth is so intricate that it must also have a designer ; god

- cannot be scientifically proven
- someone may be mistaken or lying
- could have been mental problems
- could have been hallucinations
- visions should not be needed to prove gods existence –> religion is about faith and so hardcore proof shouldn’t be needed
