A signature–it’s unique to you and your essay (the more specific, the better!)

a roadmap to your essay–it tells the reader what you will argue, how, and why

- a statement of fact (there’s no need to prove or argue fact)
- a statement of opinion (a claim is supportable with evidence; an opinion is not)
- a broad or general statement or restatement of the prompt
- a question (though it can respond to a question)

How should your thesis be formatted?
A
It should be a single sentence (semicolons can be used), it should appear at the end of your introduction, be specific and precise, and establish both your position and how you will support it.
