Describe with the aid of a diagram TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding)
Draw setup and zoomed-in view of the arc. Write bullet points on key points.
Why is TIG welding suitable for welding aluminium?
Aluminium oxidises very quickly when heated (A layer of oxygen gets sucked into the aluminium). If this oxide layer is not removed it results in a poor weld quality.
This tenacious oxide layer is overcome with the use of the cathodic action of the alternating current. (positive ions are bombarded against the aluminium destroying the oxide layer)
