10
Q

In a parallel circuit, the current is…

A

Shared. As it split up in each branch according to the component. And the total current going into a conjunction = the total current leaving.

the p.d. is the same on every branch
( meaning that eac branch gets full battery voltage)

Q

Ammeter

A

Measures the current. Should always be placed in series to the circuit.

17
Q

formula that links PD and current

18
Q

How does the length of a wire affect its resistance?

A

The longer the wire, the greater its resistance due to increased collisions between electrons and atoms in the wire.

19
Q

Lamps’s Graph

A

Curve graph. As the voltage increases, the filament heats up. and the heat causes the resistance to increase. So the current increases slowly

20
Q

Ohmic conductors

A

Straight line. Pd and current are directly proportional.

21
Q

Graph of Diodes

A

Flat to steep quick. Resistance depends on the direction of the current. They let current flow in one direction, but has a very high resistance if the current is reversed.

22
Q

Variable resistor

A

A resistor that can change its resistance

23
Q

LDR (light dependant resistor)

A

As the light intensity increase, the resistance decreases.
(Used in street lights)

24
Q

Thermistor

A

The higher the temperature, the lower the resistance.
(Used in car engines)

25
AC (alternating current)
The current is constantly changing direction. (Goes 1 way, then the other). It’s in 50Hz. Founded in plugs.
26
DC (direct current)
Current that always flows in the same direction. (Found in cells an batteries)
27
What is the pd of the UK's main supply?
230V
28
which wire will give you an electric shock?
the Live wire.
29
Live wire
Brown. Provides the alternating pd (at 230v) from the main supplier.
30
Neutral wire
Blue. Compeletes the circuit, it is 0v.
31
Which wires does appliance flow through normally?
Live and Neutral wire
32
Earth wire
Green ad Yellow. Protecting other wires and for safety. Only carry current when there is a fault. At 0v.
33
which energy transfer pathway is taken by appliances?
energy is transferred electrically
34
What factor does the total energy transferred by an appliance depends on?
the time the appliance is on, and its power.
35
what is the equation that tells is the energy transferred by appliance that depends on power and time?
E = Pt | E- energy (J) P- power (W) t- time (s)
