What are ribosomes composed of?
One large and one small subunit. They form rRNA which is importing of maintaining structure stability of the protein synthesis sequence.
What is tRNA?
It is composed of a strand of RNA that is folded in a way the anticodon is at the end of the molecule.
What is the process of translation?
1) modified mRNA leaves nucleus and attaches to small subunit of ribosome at start codon
2)tRNA molecule with complementary anticodon to start codon aligns opposite the mRNA, held in place by ribosome. Ribosome can hold two tRNA molecules at a time
3)two amino acids that have been delivered by tRNA molecule are joined together via a peptide bond which is catalysed by an enzyme using ATP
4)the ribosome will move along the mRNA molecule to the next codon and another complementary tRNA will attach to the the next codon on the mRNA.
5) this continues until the ribosome reaches the stop codon at the end of the mRNA molecule causing the ribosome to detach and ends translation.
6) the polypeptide chain is now created and will enter the Golgi body for folding and modification
