causes shortness of breath
removal of fluid in abdominal cavity (btwn belly wall and spine)
could be due to liver cirrhosis, infection, kidney/heart disease, tumor or pancreawtic disease
What effects need to be considered after paracentesis?
check for pallor, cynosis or dizziness thorugh monitoring vitals
What is Thoracentesis?
removal of excess fluid in the pleural space (between lungs and chest wall)
could be due to tumors, pneumonia, thyroid disease, chronic lung disease, congestive heawrt failure or pulmonary embolism
What effects need to be considered after Thoracentesis?
- wait 1 hour if asymptomatic
- At risk for pneumothorax (colapsted lung) so check breathing
- look for dizziness, changes in skin color, anxiety, fever, restlessness, excessive coughing, blood-tinged sputum, and tightness of chest
What effects need to be considered after a lumbar puncture?
- spinal headache (due to nick in spinal sheath)
- numbess or tingling
- blood or CSF at puncture site
What effects need to be considered after a arthrocentesis?
- no sternuous use of joint for 48-72 hours
- keep pressure/ice
- monitor for signs of infection
What is arthrocentesis?
drainage of synovial fluid from a joint capsule
could be due to grout arthritis or a synovial infection
