causes shortness of breath

A

removal of fluid in abdominal cavity (btwn belly wall and spine)

could be due to liver cirrhosis, infection, kidney/heart disease, tumor or pancreawtic disease

A

check for pallor, cynosis or dizziness thorugh monitoring vitals

A

removal of excess fluid in the pleural space (between lungs and chest wall)

could be due to tumors, pneumonia, thyroid disease, chronic lung disease, congestive heawrt failure or pulmonary embolism

What effects need to be considered after Thoracentesis?

A
  • wait 1 hour if asymptomatic
  • At risk for pneumothorax (colapsted lung) so check breathing
  • look for dizziness, changes in skin color, anxiety, fever, restlessness, excessive coughing, blood-tinged sputum, and tightness of chest
