• metaphor: we are constantly being held by a thread over a “pit of fire and despair(hell)” that is threatening to burn away at all times. Nothing we can do to stop it
• metaphor: comparing a person falling to hell praying for their “righteousness” to help them, it is written as a rock falling on to a spider web
• imaginative expression: Gods wrath is the most powerful thing in existence, and nothing is stronger than he is. He is just waiting to unleash his wrath upon you

The abolitionists in the life of Olaudo Equiano did show that the way they treated the slaves depicted a clear image of their stand for slavery reminding us that they had no regard for the slaves conditions.

• the slaves lived horrible conditions
