Leaching is a natural process by which water-soluble substances such as calcium are washed out from soil. This may reduce the fertility of a soil.

Leaching may occur due to many reasons like excessive rain or irrigation.
Due to leaching, often fertilizers and
other chemicals also get washed away with the water and reach natural water bodies. This leads to water pollution.
