urinary system
kidney -> ureter -> bladder -> urethra
Nephron
functional unit of the kidney
- removes urea
- regulate [solute] w/in the body
-filters, reabsorbs, excrete
large artery (renal artery)
enters kidney and subdivides many times, forming capillary balls called glomeruli
glomerulus
part of a nephron and both are surrounded by a Bowman’s capsule (cup shape structure)
Bowman’s Capsule
has a large coiled tube extension that is surrounded by capillaries
filtration
H2O, salts, urea, glucose, and amino acids
Active transport
recycles most of the filtrate leaving some H2O, salt, and urea behind which is called urine
