2. Build larger VMs (up to 12 TBs)
3. Provision OS disks sizes that exceed 2 TBs (up to 64TB)
4. Intel® Software Guard Extensions (SGX)
5. Secure Boot

You can’t change a virtual machine’s generation after you’ve created it.

Generation 2 VMs become generally available on Azure in November 2019. Microsoft introduced generation 2 VMs (.VHDX) for on-premises Hyper-V users with Windows Server 2012 R2.
