Pts complain of pain, discomfort, vocal strain
Decreased closure, increased air flow
Can be a primary or secondary disorder
Muscle tension dysphonia
Excessive laryngeal muscles tension (infra-/suprahyoid muscles)
Excessive super glottis laryngeal muscle tension
Can be secondary to a primary vocal pathology as a NEGATIVE compensatory strategy
Signs: tension in floor of mouth, base of tongue, and elevation of hyoid/larynx
Incomplete closure, bowing or an anterior gap
Harsh, rough voice, breathy, tense tight, whisper
