CompTIA Security+ SY0-501 > Weak Encryption 6.1 > Flashcards
Strength of Encryption
Relatively depends on how easy or hard it is to brute force or access encrypted info with a particular cypher. The reality is everything can eventually be brute force, however it would impractical.
Weak Algorithms
Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) - Weak encryption because it had design flaws. Used much less these days.
Data Encryption Standard (DES) - only 56-bit keys
Strong Algorithms
Pretty Good Privacy (PGP)
Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
Buff Weak Keys
You can make a weak key stronger by hashing it multiple times.
