Functions of proteins
Simple diffusion
Movement of small hydrophobic molecules from high concentration to low concentration across the phospholipid bilayer.
Osmosis
Movement of water molecules across a semipermeable membrane from high solvent to low solvent.
Phagocytosis
Referred to as cellular eating. The cells take in large pieces of solid material and the cell membrane pinches off to form a vesicles that travels in the cytoplasm. It is used to digest bacteria and dead cells.
Pinocytosis
Known as cellular drinking. Cells take in smaller material. A vesicle forms around extra cellular fluid and dissolves solutes.
