Q

How are rivets used

A

A hole is drilled in overlapping sheets of material , though which the rivets is inserted. The ends are then hammered over to hold the sheets in place. Rivets need access to both sides of the joints

Q

What is the process of brazing

A
  • Brazing joins metal part together using filer wire
  • the surface to be joined is first cleaned of oxides and rust, paint and grease. A flux is applied to prevent oxidation n
  • The joint is then heated to 450-1200 C , typically using a gas flame. The filler metal melts and flows into joint
  • it is then allowed to cool and harden

Q

What is the difference between welding and brazing

A

The main difference is that welding melts the base metals to fuse them together, while brazing joins them by melting a filler metal that is lower in melting point than the base metals
