5 Steps to De/Anti icing
Icing conditions
10* or below in visible moisture or ice/slush and snow are on the ramps, taxiway or runway
Freezing conditions
3* or below in visible moisture or ice/slush and snow are on the ramps, taxiway or runway
When do you do a before takeoff engine run up? How do you perform it
OAT 3* or below
Anti ice required
Set 70% and check stabilised
Hold on brakes for min 30secs
Removal of Ground Accumulated Fan Blade Ice (GAFI) and Operational Fan Blade Ice (OFI)
GAFI and OFI can both be removed by hot air provided by the de ice provider. They may also be removed by applying a light film of approved de ice fluid (Engineering function)
OFI only can be removed via pre takeoff ground run
If the aircraft has been sitting on the ground for longer than 45mins then any type of fan blade ice is considered GAFI and should be removed by hot air
Dried fluid residues
Can happen when surfaces have been treated but the aircraft has not flown or there has been no precipitation to wash away the fluid and it dries.
It should be treated as contamination and must be removed prior to flight
Takeoff in moderate to heavy freezing rain
Prohibited
