3 causes of ww2

A

Treaty of versailles - Germany was forced to sign TOV - they resented this - included paying reperations and anschluss was banned
Hitlers foreign policy - hitler wanted to make Germany great again - wanted to unite all german speaking people and form grossdeutschland, abolish TOV and obtain lebensraum
Policy of appeasement - Britain and France gave into hitlers demands as they believed it would avoid war

4 main events during ww2

A

1st september 1939 - hitler invaded poland, 3rd september 1939 - britain and france declared war on germany, this started ww2
The Blitz - german planes bombed british cities - london was bombed 71 times - 40,000 killed total - children evacuated to the countryside
22nd june 1941 - operation barbarossa - hitler used blitzkrieg tactics in a 3 pronged attack against leningrad, moscow and kiev
7th december 1941 - pearl harbour attack - japan attacked the american naval fleet in hawaii - 2400 killed

2 immediate consequences of ww2

A

Deaths - roughly 21-25 million militray deaths and 50-55 million civillian deaths.
Destruction - cities, roads, railways and harours were destroyed throughout europe

2 long term consequnces of ww2

A

The end of european suoremacy - britain and france were no longer strong enough to hold onto their empires and from the 1940s-60s their empires were decolinised
Move towards european unity - european leaders promoted european unity, this eventually led to the formation of the european union
