Canada declared war Sept 10, 1939 with most Canadians supporting its entry into the war as many still defined their identity through Great Britain while others were against the growing dictatorships in Europe

What was the Battle of dieppe (operation jubilee)
Canadians raided the French port of dieppe. The objective of the attack was simply to hold the town long enough to destroy or harbour installations and the withdraw. The raid tested new techniques and equipment. By the time forces hit the beach they lost advantages of surprise and darkness. Most Canadians died got injured or became POWs. Dieppe was the deadliest battle for Canadians

In October 1938, Hitler marched into the Sudetenland. The Sudeten crisis began in February 1938 when Hitler demanded self-determination for all Germans in Austria and Czechoslovakia. Shortly after, Austrian Nazis rioted and invited Hitler to invade, which he did in March, declaring Anschluss

Dunkirk evacuation, (1940) in World War II, the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and other Allied troops from the French seaport of Dunkirk (Dunkerque) to England. Naval vessels and hundreds of civilian boats were used in the evacuation, which began on May 26.
