What are subariel processes?
include weathering, mass movement and rock breakdown processes. *
importance
weathering causes rock to breakdown and the cliff/rock structure to be substantially weakened.
mechanical weathering
freeze thaw- puts pressure on the air in the cracks in rock, widening the bedding planes.
more likely in wet/cold environments
biological weathering
when plants bore into rock and the fungi release chemicals which dissolve them before they are then consumed.
more important in wet/warm environments.
chemical weathering
acidic rainwater formed by C02 in the air reacts with calcium carbonate in limestone causing it dissolve by carbonation.
