VFR DUE REGARD
The military aircraft commander must ensure one of the following conditions must be satisfied:
Aircraft must be operated in VMC
Aircraft may temporarily be operated in less than VMC when required by operational needs if the aircraft commander determines that there is acceptable risk to the other aircraft
Aircraft must be operated under continuous surveillance by, and in communication with, a surface or airborne facility providing the surveillance
Equipped with airborne radar that is sufficient to provide separation between them
When are flight operations through a WW authorized
If storm development has not progressed as forecasted:
VFR filing is permitted if existing and forecast weather for the planned route permits such flights
IFR flight may be permitted if aircraft radar installed and operative, thus permitting detection and avoidance of isolated thunderstorms
IFR flight is permissible in controlled airspace if VMC can be maintained, thus enabling aircraft to detect and avoid isolated thunderstorms
