Alpha1-adrenoceptors are found mainly in smooth muscle, including in blood vessels and the urinary tract. Stimulation induces contraction; blockade induces relaxation. Alpha1-blockers therefore cause vasodilatation and a fall in blood pressure, and reduced resistance to bladder outflow
