Q

Weak Atheism

A

Weak atheism (also called negative atheism). is the position of lacking belief in the existence of any gods, without asserting that gods definitely do not exist. Weak atheists simply do not hold belief in a god rather than positively claiming gods cannot exist. Anthony Flew: “if no such grounds are provided, there exists no sufficient reason for believing in God, and the only reasonable position is to be a negative atheist…”

Q

When did anti theism gain popularity and why did it attack religion?

A

9/11: it attacked religion for:
1. Not thinking: Richard Dawkins says religion teaches people to be happy with not understanding
2. Infantile: Accepting without question
3. Impeding scientific progress: Christopher Hitchens saying religion works against reason (eg evolution).
