From left to right, what are the three FMA mode annunciations?
Auto-throttle, Roll, Pitch of the automatic flight system
How is control wheel steering indicated?
An amber CWS R or CWS P on the Flight Mode Annunciator
How is independent flight director operation indicated?
Independent operation is indicated by the Illumination of both MA lights.
When independent ops terminates, the MA light remains ill’ only on the master
F/D side
-Each FCC is controlling modes for related F/D
When do the flight directors operate independently?
Both FD on during:
Manual flight and,
TO/GA selected < 400’ RA
Or
APP mode with LOC and G/S captured
Except for when APP modes (LOC/GS) are active. how many autopilots may be engaged at once?
One
What would cause the A/P to disengage?
“other” various scenarios:
When will the STAB OUT OF TRIM light illuminate?
Only with the Autopilot engaged and:
-The autopilot is not trimming the stabilizer correctly.
OR
- A partial failure of an FCC. Should failure occur in flight, the light illuminates after landing when ground speed
< 30 kts
What does a flashing amber A/T alert light indicate?
Indicates an A/T airspeed error where airspeed differs from commanded value by +10 knots or – 5 knots and is not approaching commanded value in flight with flaps not fully up
(flaps extended)
Which system provides the N1 limit for the A/T?
The A/T system operates properly with the EECs ON or in ALTN. In either case, the A/T uses the FMC N1 limits.
During A/T operation, it is recommended that both EECs be ON or both be in ALTN, as this produces minimum thrust lever separation.
What is the auto-throttle mode when the pitch mode is V/S?
MCP SPD.
The bank angle selector will limit the angle of bank in which modes?
How is LOC and GS modes armed?
By selecting the APP button on the MCP.
The APP switch ill’ green and:
roll mode = VOR/LOC armed
pitch mode = G/S armed
enables engagement of both A/P’s
When is an altitude deviation alert provided?
When deviating by 200 feet from the selected altitude.
The amber flashing continues until:
*altitude deviation becomes less than 200 ft
*altitude deviation becomes more than 900 ft
*a new altitude is selected
What does THR HLD on the FMA indicate?
Indicates that power has been removed from the Auto-throttle servos.
(the thrust levers can still be manually set by the pilots)
After TO/GA is selected on a two-engine go around, the FD will command an initial pitch attitude of approximately how many degrees?
15 degree nose up until reaching programmed rate of climb.
On a go-around with the auto-throttle armed, after the first push of either TO/GA switch. the thrust levers advance to a reduced go-around N1, to produce what rate of climb?
On a single-engine go-around, a push of either TO/GA switch will command an initial pitch of how many degrees nose up?
If single engine, the FD pitch commands 13° nose up. As
What occurs in minimum speed reversion?
Simply put, “A/P and FD command min speed for current flap configuration” (1.3 Vs)
Minimum speed, FMC speed or selected speed whichever is higher becomes the FMS commanded speed.
AFS commands a speed 5 kts > than minimum speed. Reaching > 5 kts, speed reactivates normal MCP speed selection control
What will disengage the A/T system?
*Question not in back of chapter
*Moving the A/T ARM switch to OFF
*Pushing either A/T Disengage switch
*An A/T system fault is detected
*Two seconds after landing touchdown
