Q

Describe generalised transduction

A
  1. (State which type of transduction) Generalised transduction occurs
    .
  2. Durng lytic cycle, small degraded fragments of Bacteria DNA is accidentally / randomly packaged into phage capsid during assembly, forming a defective phage that carries bacteria DNA.
    .
  3. The defective phage is released by lysis and injects bacteria DNA into a new host cell through its tail tube.
    .
  4. Donor DNA is incorporated into host cell chromosome via homologous recombination, where a homologous section is replaced to form a recombinant cell

Q

Describe specialised transduction

A
  1. (State which type of transduction) specialised transduction occurs
    .
  2. During lysogenic cycle phage genome is integrated at the Prophage insertion site into bacteria chromosome to form a Prophage
    .
  3. After phage switches to lytic cycle, bacteria DNA adjacent to the Prophage insertion site (PIS) is accidentally excised tgt with Prophage, forming a defective phage that carries bacteria DNA
    .
  4. The defective phage injects bacteria DNA into a new host cell through its tail tube
    .
  5. Donor DNA is incorporated into host chromosome via homologous recombination where a homologous section is replaced to form a recombinant cell
