What is the process of packing a kit for the autoclave?
1. place instruments in the middle of the drape, (all instrument ratchets are open) 2. Place a chemical indicator (TST strip) on top of instruments (yellow-unprocessed, black- autoclaved) 3. Concertina (zig-zag) fold the drape over the instruments 4. secure end product of folded drape with a piece of autoclave tape 5. Select an appropriately sized autoclave pouch and place the wrapped kit inside * The kit should fit smoothly into the pouch without being squashed 6. Remove excess air from the pouch 7. Peel away the adhesive strip located at the bottom of the pouch
27
What is the purpose of using a TST strip
placing a chemical indicator INSIDE the wrapped kit monitors if steam has penetrated to the instruments. It detects if thephysical conditions required for sterilization are met ( temperature, steam, time
28
Describe the prrocess of Concertina (zig-zag) fording the drape
1. Concertina (zig-zag) fold the drape over the instruments from the side closest to you. and then from opposite to you 2. Concertina (zig-zag) fold from the opposite side 3. Locate the end of the instruments and fold the left side of the drape into the middle 4.Locate the end of the instruments on the right side and fold the drape into the middle, turning over the end by roughly an inch 5. Secure the folded edge with a strip of autoclave tape
29
How should the autoclave pouch be labeled?
1. Contents of the kit 2. Date autoclaved 3. Date of expiry (3 months after autoclaving) 4. The Packers initials
