Q

What is reproduction?

A

The process by which organisms make more of their own kind.
* Reproduction is necessary 2 continue life b/c no organism can live 4ever.

Q

What is metabolism?

A

The sum of all chemicals reactions in order 2 obtain & use energy 2 run processes of life.
*Most energy used by living things is Sunlight
*Humans obtain energy - eat meat (animals) + animals
*Plants obtain energy. - photosynthesis

12
Q

What is homeostasis?

A

The prices in which all living things maintain a stable environment in spite of changes in the external environment.
*Living organisms will die if they cannot maintain internal stability, ex: shivering, sweating, putting on a coat.

16
Q

What r the 6 stages of the scientific method?

A

Observation, Q, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analysis, Conclusions

17
Q

What does observation mean?

A

Statement of knowledge gained through the senses or w/ scientific equipment. Ex of scientific equipment includes microscope, computer
*Keep careful records of all kinds of facts.

18
Q

What does Q mean?

A

What do scientists want 2 know?
Want 2 learn/know further unknown into after facts

19
Q

What is hypothesis?

A

An educated guess or prediction
*Not a random guess.

20
Q

What is an experiment?

A

Planned procedure to test a hypothesis
A) control group - group that receives NO experimental treatment
B) Experimental group - Group that receives the experimental treatment.

21
Q

What is analysis?

A

Comparing results of the experiment to the hypothesis

22
Q

What is conclusion?

A

At this point the hypothesis is either supported or rejected thru the analysis.
*Theory - set of related hypothesis that have been tested and confirmed many times by many scientists. Ex: The world is round.

23
Q

What is the goal in science?

A

To develop theories

24
Q

What is a compound microscope?

A

Light passes thru 1 or more lenses to produce an enlarged image of a specimen.
*Magnifying power, can view living things.

25
What is en electron microscope?
Forms an image of a specimen using a beam of electrons, rather than light. *Magnifying power, cannot view living things b/c living things cannot survive inside a vacuum and a vacuum is needed to form the beam of electrons.
26
What r the differences between a compound microscope and an electron microscope?
*Compound uses light, electron uses a beam of electrons *Compound CAN magnify living things, electron CAN’T magnify living things *Compound is less strong, electron is more strong.
