Biodiversity
The variety of all different living organisms on Earth, or within an ecosystem
Species diversity
The number of different species and the number of individuals of each in a community
Genetic diversity
The amount of different alleles possessed by the individuals within a given species population
Ecosystem diversity
The range of different habitats
Species richness
A type of species diversity and it is a a measure of the amount of different species in a community. (DOES NOT MEASURE AMOUNT OF INDIVIDUALS IN EACH SPECIES)
Index diversity
Equation which takes in to account the proportion of individuals in each species (Get given in exam)
Impacts of agriculture
Ecosystem controlled by humans = Only species with desirable characteristics
Reduction in genetic diversity
Less land available only for desirable species
Stronger competition
Reduction in species diversity
How farmers affect species diversity
Removing hedgerows
Pesticides
Overgrazing
Draining wetlands
How farmers can maintain biodiversity
Maintaining hedges - Allow habitats for species
Crop rotation - Minerals in soil have time to replenish
Planting native trees - Provides habitats
Organic fertiliser
Wet corners of field
P values
The probability / significance that a difference in distribution is due to change.
e.g
if p > 0.05 the difference in distriburtion is probably due to chance as probability due to change is greater than 5%
if p < 0.05 it is unlikely due to chance
p = probability
