Simple reflex
Allow rapid, automatic response to stimuli, the purpose of which is to protect an organism from harm
Reflex arcs
Automatic and fast nerve pathways taken by reflexex. Faster than any type of nervous response
Reflex arc when a stimuli is detected
Stimulus > receptors > coordinators/CNS > effectors > response
Three types of neurones in reflex arcs
Sensory neurone
Relay neurone
Motor neurone
Sensory neurone
Carry impulses from receptor to the central nervous system (CNS)
Relay neurone
Connect sensory and motor neurones, Found within CNS
Motor neurone
Carry impulses from CNS to effectors (Effectors - Muscles or glands)
Stimulus
A detectable change in the internal or external environment of an organism that produces a response.
Receptor
A cell or protein that detects a stimulus and initiates an electrical impulse in response.
