What is Cured in place pipe sewer lining technology?

• It is a way to rehabilitate underground pipelines without excavating by :
 Insert and run a lining into a preexisting pipe that is subject to repair
 You run an exposing uv light source in the pipe that cures the liner on the pipe and therefore the lining actas as a new pipeline.

What is the step-by-step process of the sewer lining?

• Plug is inserted into the pipe to prevent the flow of water
• Cleaning and inspection of the sewer
• Foil is inserted in order to limit friction
• Liner is inserted into the old pipe by means of winch which is located above one of the manholes
• Liner position using compressed air
• UV light source is placed in the liner and the liner ends are sealed with packers
• Which does the curing of the liner
• The packers are removed
• Robot is inserted to cut circular wholes to enable flow from other pipes coming in perpendicularly
• Camera is used to check the liner is performing optimally

Why could the interface have been problematic?

• The risk of managing it was going to be with the contractor
• The survey team was meant to be managed by the subcontractor team. Subcontractor oversees planning out the works and their sequence.
• Now the contractor would have to manage that team which bring risks of them not being managed correctly.
• Main subcontractor carries out the work, and is in charge of the works, you bring a team that is technically their client

What to include in an acceleration quote?

• setting out precisely which resources it intends to increase and what extra hours it intends to work
• caveat disclaiming liability in the event that further delays are caused by new events that would entitle it to an extension of time.
• Include terms for a means of ending the acceleration measures.
• Include a precise and workable definition of how acceleration is achieved and the project is “complete”
• Make it clear if there is any further change /new events extension of time (limiting liability)

• Its when it’s decided to increase the rate that the works are completed to complete the works earlier than previously planned.

• Clause 36 under NEC.
• Contractor may instruct the subcontractor to submit a quotation for an achieving completion or meeting a key date earlier than mentioned in the contract
• The subcontractor provides a quotation that includes the change to the prices, revised programme and the change in key date. Or may decline with the reasons of not doing so within the period of reply.
• The quotation includes full details on the measures to be undertaken to meet this acceleration.
• The contractor accepts a quotation for a quotation and then accepts the revised programme.

How can acceleration be achieved?

In order to improve the rate of progress the contractor may be able to change:
• the site working hours
• the level of resources deployed
• the programme
• the temporary works; (increase scaffolding)
• the methods of working. (off site construction)

• Mitigation is when a contractor takes reasonable steps to minimize loss. It does not mean adding extra resources.
